Yuko HIRAI | 平井優子

幼少よりクラシックバレエを学ぶ。90年代に珍しいキノコ舞踊団、ニブロール等の作品に出演。2001年フランス政府給費留学生として渡仏。CDC Toulouse/Midi-Pyrénéesに在学後、振付家Marco BerrettiniやNadia Lauro、映像作家Sharon Lockheart等の仕事をする。

​

　同時に2001年ダムタイプのフランストゥルーズでの「Voyage」クリエーションを機にメンバーとして活動を開始する。2020年京都ロームシアタでの新作「2020」にも参加している。

　高谷史郎（ダムタイプ）のパフォーマンスプロジェクト「明るい部屋」(2008)、「CHROMA」(2012)、「ST/LL」(2015)にダンサー兼振付として参加、ヨーロッパをはじめ様々な都市で公演。

　2010年国民文化祭での振付を機に岡山県を拠点にした活動も開始。2012年天神山文化プラザ５０周年記念作品の制作、その他奈義町現代美術館、倉敷大原美術館等でもパフォーマンス作品を発表。

​

　自身のプロジェクトとして、民話、異類婚姻譚に見るクィアや女性の変身をテーマにしたプロジェクト「猿婿」（2014~)、「Ghosting」(2016)、オルタナティブな形での伝統芸能を追求する「咆哮のコレオグラフィー」(2022~)などがある。

​そのほか様々な土地に関するリサーチ型プロジェクト「彷徨のコレオグラフィー」など展開中。

​

　そのほか音楽家とのライブパフォーマンスや能楽師らとのコラボレーション、TVドラマのダンスシーンの振付、bonobosミュージックビデオの出演など活動は多岐にわたる。

2016年福武文化奨励賞受賞

​

Yuko Hirai learned classical ballet since childhood. She majored in dance at Japan Women's College of Physical Education and studied various types of dance. At the same time, she developed her own dance solo works and drag performances in the club scene. In 2001, she studied in France as a French government scholarship student. After studying at CDC Toulouse/Midi-Pyrénées, worked with choreographers Marco Berrettini and Nadia Lauro, and filmmaker Sharon Lockheart.

 

In parallel, she joined the Japanese multimedia performance company Dumb Type as a creative member and toured many festivals and theaters in France, Germany and the US. Later on, she continued working for Shiro Takatani and Takayuki Fujimoto, her former colleagues of Dumb Type, and toured abroad extensively as well as performing at such prestigious theaters in Japan as the New National Theater, Biwako Hall and KAAT (Kanagawa Arts Theater).

Since around 2010, he has been included activities based in her hometown, Okayama . In 2010, she choreographed for the National Cultural Festival, and in 2012, created a work commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Tenjinyama Culture Plaza, and presented performance works at the Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art and the Kurashiki Ohara Museum of Art.

 

Her signature solo project « Salumko — Stranger's Face » focuses on themes of 'gender' and 'queerness' found in Japanese folklore about human-animal marriages. The work premiered in Okayama, Japan in 2014 and was presented at the KYOTO EXPERIMENT Fringe in 2014 and the 8th Yebisu International Art and Alternative Vision Festival in Tokyo in 2016.

 

​Her other activities include live performances with musicians, collaborations with Noh actors, choreography for dance scenes in TV dramas, and appearances in bonobos music videos.
